Orienteering is a family of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain. Participants are given a map, usually a specially prepare orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Originally a training exercise in land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations and is suitable for all age groups. Among these the oldest and most popular is foot orienteering which involves walking or running against a clock whilst visiting as many control points as possible.

Orienteering courses can be used to teach navigation training for the nnas courses.
